P 34. Part of an ornamented pot. Type IV.
Max. ext. diam. of rim 5.l26 in. ; max. ext. diam. of body 6.75 in.
Ware reddish-black colour and heavy. Paste mixed with grit. Ext. surface originally black and burnished, weathered at places and gritty to the touch. Int. surface dark grey, uneven, gritty to the touch.
Ornamented with a band of inter-locking semicirdes enclosing leaf-shaped spaces which are hatched diagonally.
Found in Mound XIII, on first or second floor, 15 ft. S. of the c.p. 3, 1913.

P 35. Ornamented bowl with flat rim.
Max. ext. diam. of lip (approx.) 6.l26 in. ; max ext. diam. of body 7.75 in.
Ware hard-baked, strong, heavy thickness varies from 0.25 in. to 0.38 in. Paste reddish-grey. well-mixed with fine quartz grit and pieces of stone. Ext. surface red, smooth, burnished where not weathered. Int. surface varies from light red to black, probably baked a second time fairly smooth, but gritty to the touch in places.
Ornamented with a nondescript design of curved bands, shaded with diagonal lines.
Found in Mound IV, under the clay floor, 4.5 ft. E. of the c.p., 1913.

P 36. Fragment of pot cover with a flange projecting from the lower surface ornamented on upper surface and the edge.
The distance of the flange from the margin averages 0.8l in. Depth of flange, ext. surface 0.5 in.
Int. surface 0.44 in. Average thickness 0.3l in. thickness of cover varies from 0.25 in, to 0.44 in.
Ware hard-baked, heavy. Paste dark grey, mixed with large quantity of grit. Upper surface dark grey and smooth. Lower surface grey to brown, fairly smooth. The rounded margin of the cover is ornamented with cross-hatching. The pattern on the upper surface is surrounded with three girth grooves. There is not enough of the pattern to make out the complete design.
Found in Mound IV, in the black earth, 20 ft. N.E.. of the c.p., 1914.

P 38. Triangular-shaped fragment of pot-base, perforated with one hole made after baking.
Diam. of base when complete 4.88 in. ; perforation circular 0.9 in. in diam.
Ware hard-baked, strong, heavy ; thickness varies from 0.25 in. to 0.31 in. Paste dark grey, mixed with quantities of fine quartz sand. Ext. surface black and smooth. Int. surface black, rough and uneven.
Found in Mound VII, 34.5 ft. S. E. of the c.p., 1914.

P 39. Small fragment of Romano-British pot.
Ware hard-baked, light weight, spongy texture ; thickness varies from 0.126 in. to 0.l9 in.
Paste light grey colour, mixed with small quantity of grit, full of small air spaces. Ext. surface grey, smooth but uneven. Int. surface darkish-grey, corrugated horizontally with ridges and striae.
Ornamented with a single waved line 0.63 in. in width.
Found in Mound XVIII, at the depth of 1.5 ft. under the alluvium, 21.5 ft. E. of the c,p., 1914.
