CORACLES

Messing about on the river...

The coracle is a small lightweight single man boat that can be carried easily and paddled with a single oar.

It is made by stretching skins over a light flexible framework of willow wands. The skin is made waterproof by rubbing fat or oil over the outside.

They are highly manoeuvrable and can be used for long distance travel on rivers and for fishing.
