BOATS
Life afloat

Many ways of staying dry have been found, in the attempt to cross water safely. The following are some of the ancient ways, ranging from a one-man coracle to seagoing vessels capable of carrying large loads of cargo.

Coracles are the smallest and lightest boats that were used. They can be carried by one person and are sturdy enough to be used in fast flowing rivers.
Larger versions called coraks were used for carrying larger loads. These were stable enough to be used at sea.
Log boats were the next development following log rafts. This one is a reconstruction of a log boat found in the Glastonbury Lake Village excavations.
