9. The Sacred Lakes

Large entrance above the tomb of Tutankhamen. The king to the left of the picture is shown worshipping the goddess Maat. To the right he is seen before two sacred lakes, each containing four figures representing fire, and the sacred apes. These lakes are always found in the Nether world and must be traversed by the deceased. The text describes the scene. Several gods in rows are shown on the ceiling. There is also the sun disc (on the right), and the heavens studded with stars. In the middle of the ceiling is the solar barque traversing the sky.
