5. Protecting the Deceased
![]() |
Tomb of Thotmes III Scene represents Nephthys, sister to Isis, who helped in her search for the body of the slain Osiris. She is always associated with Osiris's body in his funerary scenes. She is shown here painted on the king's coffin; with outspread arms protecting the deceased. The most destinguishing feature is the head-dress, to which is attached a sacred serpent, and the fringes of the head-dress are shown behind the shoulders. She is shown here wearing a tight gown of pure white linen, high-waisted and kept in place by shoulder straps, with a broad necklace of coloured beads. Her name, which means "Goddess of the Temple", is inscribed above her. |
